Now lemme tell you I was a Chipotle fantic. I would eat it every Wednesday in between classes and almost every other Friday. I used it as a reward. If I finished reading a book. Chipotle. If I got a good grade on that project with a strict deadline. Chipotle. If I got a B on a group project I thought for sure I was going to get a D on because my group wasn’t very helpful. CHIPOTLE.
But soon I just got tired of it. I haven’t had it since June. I used to not even last two weeks without Chipotle. So when I was on Instagram instead of writing my three page essay and saw Chipotle had a new menu item; the Carne Asada. I needed to try it.
There are two Chipotles between my school and Penn Station but I by passed those to get to the one on 37th street by Macy’s because that one has the best chicken so they will have to best carne asada. ( That’s right I’ve been to enough different Chipotles that I have a ranking. The chipotle in Roosevelt Field is a close second for chicken.)
While I was on the line, I was worried they would run out. I constantly peeked out of the line but my short self could barely see the steak. Luckily, I was able to get a heaping pile of steak in my bowl. Along with white rice, pico de gallo, hot salsa, cheese and lettuce.
You can get the Carne Asada for $10.45, a dollar more than the regular steak and at 260 calories it’s a 110 calorie difference between the regular steak.
Long strips,. A warm red middle. Charred brown skin. Dots of green from the cilantro all over it. I couldn’t wait to try it.
You won’t be struggling to eat this steak like it’s a piece of rubber. With each effortless bite the first thing you taste the lime. As if before being put on the grill the steaks were instructed to swim a couple hundreds laps in a pool of lime juice. But there lime juice definitely doesn’t over power the steak. You still get the little pops of the spices as you chew.
Overall, this Carne Asada adds another level of flavor to any combination of you make. This is definitely something I’ll get after a long day of three 3 hour classes where the first and third are on the west side of Manhattan but the second class is on the east side of Manhattan.
